happily ever after?

like yanling said, miss ni just finished with my class the article on fairytales.
last friday, she told us the origin of fairytales, and the purpose of them.

at the start, i felt that fairytales were just stories...
i never questioned their source, their reason, but just took it as what it was.
no, i didnt believe in happily ever after, but i didnt question it either.
yet now, i think i agree with the article.

this morning during gp,when someone asked miss ni if she believed in happily ever after, she said her mom used to tell her fairytales with happily ever after endings when she was young. yet, when she was seven, her parents went through a divorce. from then on, she knew that happily ever after never existed in real life.

so it is true that fairytales are told to preserve the innocence of children, to tell them that there is still hope in this world?
to give them the courage to face up to challenges, and later emerge victors?
how ironic it is, that parents are the ones who tell fairytales with picture-perfect endings to their children, with the aim for creating a wonderful world for them, and then smashing it with family problems?

so what really happens to snow white after she marries the prince?
or cinderella?
or sleeping beauty?

does the good always triumph over the bad,
or do the good ultimately turn bad?

i dont like my situation now.
i always thought that even if i wasnt happy, it was okay.
at least both of them in mjc would be happy, and char in tp would be happy.
but i read bekah's blog, and then i realised....
there really is no such thing as happily ever after.
problems just seem to jump up in our faces, with no regard for anything else.
what would have happened if we had just stayed in tpjc?
i really do not know.
maybe then i wouldnt drift so far from my friends..
all we do now is meet for the mere 5 to 10 minutes, and then its hi and bye in school.
we dont even go to the same bus stop to go home anymore.
somehow when we were in tp, at least we could go home together, taking the same bus, dropping at the bus stop.
i guess its really different now.
all the pretend happiness in school, the uncertainty.
i dont know who to trust, who to stick to.

and then there's the story in the chinese comprehension.
a boy, barely 13 years old, wrote a letter to his principal.
for what?, you think.
in his letter, he said that he overhears his parents quarrelling every night. his father has a new girlfriend, and all his mother cares about is her job. he feels like a football, being pushed back and forth. sometimes, he feels that he isnt even a football. instead, he is a pingpong ball, being hit back and forth and then left alone.
how fair, then, is it for children as young as seven to go through and experience the problems of an adult?
and how is it for a child of thirteen to be unwanted by his parents?
just how much care is there in the world?

there is no such thing as happily ever after.
to stick to this notion will just turn us all mad, disillusioned and depressed when we discover the stark reality.
sighs~
